Building Lasting Change 2020 – Retrofits: Beyond Energy Efficiency

12:00 pm - 3:45 pm

The Canada Green Building Council are excited to share the latest updates on the new online program for Canada’s premier green building event, CaGBC’s Building Lasting Change (BLC), kicking off September 2020 during World Green Building Week.

Reimagined as a dynamic real-time virtual event, Building Lasting Change 2020 will feature interactive online programming over five half-days in September and October, with three additional stand-alone live webcast symposiums later in the fall.

Retrofits: Beyond Energy Efficiency

Over 80 per cent of all buildings standing in 2030 have already been built. As a result, today’s buildings represent the greatest opportunity for immediate net reductions in carbon emissions. Without tackling existing buildings, Canada cannot reach its emissions reduction goal. Large building retrofits create jobs, spur economic growth, and deliver cost savings to owners. This stream recognizes that large building retrofit must be a driving force in Canada’s transformation to a low-carbon economy and will address a range of asset classes where the most significant gains can be made, including offices, retail, multi-residential, and institutional buildings.

Presentations will include the latest research on retrofit, project case studies with hands-on experience, retrofit best practices to combat project challenges, and financing solutions for retrofit projects. The stream will also present projects and portfolios pursuing LEED O+M 4.1 certification, performance management and recertification using Arc, and Investor Confidence Project pilots.

Buy in Bulk

Buying in bulk is a great way to cut carbon by reducing packaging (embodied carbon and waste) and reducing shipping emissions. Plus, one trip is better than ten.

Bonus: it will likely reduce waste as staff and management begin to keep a close eye on purchasing cycles.
